Camp Catalpa

Camp Catalpa is a 17-acre wooded park located on the eastern bank of Lake Reba in the Lake Reba Recreational Park in Richmond.  Camp Catalpa has long been designated a bird sanctuary and has a nature trail following the perimeter of the camp and the shoreline of the lake.  It is a habitat for many forms of wildlife and the only truly wooded property in the city park system.

The order of the City Commission proposes to lease this city land to a private group, which plans to build a 75-120 space RV park.  The ecological effects of this construction could be disastrous.  In addition to the loss of habitat for the diverse wildlife population, a large majority of the trees would have to be cut down, and the land reconfigured to accommodate the RVs.

Let's not destroy this beautiful park forever on such a bizarre and speculative scheme.
